Piazza Brembana<\/strong> is a small \"service and trade center\" of Alta Val Brembana. With its 1200 inhabitants it is the largest municipality of the 20 existing in the \u201cOltre la Goggia\u201d area (ancient name of the upper part of the valley). Not to be missed is the imposing Gothic-style Church, which stands out against the surrounding mountains. A simple walk leads us to discover the ancient part of the town, which in the past was crossed by Via Priula<\/em> (and Via Mercatorum) and the little shops in the center.<\/p>\r\n\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a>\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n

The trip continues to Olmo al Brembo<\/strong>, which welcomes us with the Santuario dei Campelli<\/em>, a small church on the banks of the Brembo river. The village was the ancient crossroads of historic roads, with bridges and arcades. Today there are some characteristic corners such as that of Cugno<\/em>, at the entrance to the Valle Stabina.<\/p>\r\n\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n

Moving towards the Valle Averara<\/strong>, the first point of interest is the ancient Via Porticata<\/em> di Averara, which is part of the historic \"Via Mercatorum\". A few steps away, behind the ancient arcaded road, we can reach the ruins of an ancient watchtower, and then continue to Redivo, where the Bottagisi house is located, with its characteristic rural architecture from the Venetian era.<\/p>\r\n\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n

Returning to the village, we make a detour to take a look at the Ancient Venetian Customs House<\/em>\u00a0(Antica Dogana Veneta) and go down to the church, in whose arcade we can see the \"Torre della Sapienza\". The day in Valle Stabina<\/strong> starts from Cassiglio<\/strong>; a walk through the village will immediately make you notice the Danza Macabra right above the entrance to the Parish Church. The amazement continues discovering a majestic Macabre Serenade on the facade of Casa Milesi<\/strong> which depicts the fickleness of life.<\/p>\r\n\"\"<\/a>\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n

Here you can cross the iron bridge<\/strong> and in a few minutes you reach the Cassiglio lake area<\/strong>, a small reservoir enclosed in the mountains, which welcomes many tourists looking for coolness and relax.<\/p>\r\n\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n

The journey in Valle Stabina continues towards Ornica<\/strong>. Here you can 'get lost' in the narrow streets of the ancient rural village, with its full of charm views. Ornica is home to the Albergo diffuso of the \"Donne di Montagna\" Cooperative which also manages the information office. In Ornica it is worth visiting the parish church where, upon request, you can admire the vault of the sacristy frescoed by Angelo Baschenis, and a walk to the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Frassino, at the bottom part of the Val d'Inferno, to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding landscapes.<\/p>\r\n\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n

Valtorta<\/strong> is the last village in Valle Stabina. At the entrance to the village, you're welcomed by the Clock Tower<\/strong>, behind it stands the Pizzo dei Tre Signori, the highest mountain in the area. In the center of Valtorta, do not miss the Ethnographic Museum<\/strong> located in the palace of the former Venetian court, then discovery the ancient mills and hammers, recovered for educational purposes, that surround the town and enrich the Ecomuseum of Alta Val Brembana.<\/p>\r\n\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n

In Santa Brigida<\/strong>, the place of origin of the famous Baschenis frescoes, it is worth a visit both to the imposing parish church and the ancient church, known today as the Sanctuary of the Addolorata<\/strong>. At the Sanctuary many artworks witness its value as a historical center point of the valley and from here you can admire the landscape of the Valle Averara.<\/p>\r\n\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n

There are numerous hamlets to discover: Taleggio, Caprile, Cugno, Gerro<\/strong> are just some of the hidden corners of the village, in each of which you can find a fresco that tells stories and legends of the territory.<\/p>\r\n\u00a0\"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a>\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n

\r\nDriving up towards Cusio<\/strong>, near the sports center, you find the Antico Mulino<\/strong> of the sixteenth century, witness to a tradition rooted in all the Altobrembo villages, still functioning today and open to visitors on request. Continuing towards the inhabited center, it is lovely getting lost in the narrow streets of the historic center, and walking to the churches of Sant'Alberto (for its views) or San Giovanni<\/strong> (a peaceful corner surrounded by woods), which can also be visited on request.<\/p>\r\n

In the afternoon we recommend a walk to the Piani dell\u2019Avaro<\/strong>. The tour in the Valle di Mezzoldo<\/strong> starts from Piazzolo, the smallest village in Alta Val Brembana. A quick tour in the tiny center, with the church of Santa Maria Assunta, and then you allow yourselves a pleasant regenerating walk on the \u201cPiana di Piazzolo\u201d<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n

You then move to Piazzatorre<\/strong>, nestled between the Torcole pine forest and the rocks of Monte Secco. A visit to the church, at the beginning of the town, you greet the deer in the park located near the sports center and then enter the pine forest. You can choose how to continue our day: either you reach Torcole<\/strong> on foot (summer and winter by chairlift) to enjoy fantastic views of the Alta Val Brembana, or you head towards Mezzoldo.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n\"\"<\/a>\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n

If you decide for the second choice, you reach the San Marco Pass<\/strong> to enjoy the view of the Valtellina Alps, with the Pizzo Bernina and the Pizzo Badile. A few steps lead you to discover the trenches of the Cadorna line, and some beautiful rock sculptures. You then descend to the alpin huts and discover the ancient Cantoniera house, with the Lion of Venice, testimony of the time when the Valley was under the dominion of the Serenissima and of the historical importance of these areas. Drive back to Mezzoldo where you get lost in the historic center, crossed by Via Priula, and discover the Antica Dogana.
